I had the pleasure of photographing the Porterfield family during a hot July evening in Garden City, KS, and as always, they did not disappoint! Their patriotic outfits were absolutely perfect for this time of year—whether it was intentional or not, their session practically screamed Americana.

Big sister was an absolute treasure, full of sweet shy smiles and charm. Little brother, on the other hand, was busy, busy, busy! But all that boy energy brought so much life to the session—it’s always fun to capture kids being their authentic selves. Those candid moments are what make family pictures so special.

I’ve been photographing the Porterfield family for years now, starting before little sister was even born! Watching their family grow and having the opportunity to document all of these milestones is such an honor. Even though I’m now based in Eastern Colorado, I love being a Colorado traveling photographer and making the trip back to Garden City for sessions like this. Reconnecting with families like the Porterfields is always the highlight of my day.
