Hollowell Newborn Session in Limon, Colorado

Some newborn sessions come with a little extra story behind them, and the Hollowell session is one I won’t forget. Their sweet baby girl needed oxygen support for several weeks after birth — something that’s actually more common for Colorado babies than most people realize. Even though Limon feels flat and wide‑open, we’re still at a high elevation, and that can make those early days a little tougher for newborns.

The Hollowells brought all three big sisters along, and they were incredibly helpful and gentle. We started with family portraits, which went beautifully thanks to their teamwork and patience. Once we moved to just baby, though, she let us know she wasn’t feeling it. Fussy, uncomfortable, and clearly in the middle of a growth spurt — exactly the kind of moment where flexibility matters.

When Baby Needs More Time — We Adjust

I suggested to mom that we pause and try again another day. Sometimes newborns are cluster feeding, overtired, or just working through a developmental leap. There’s no rushing that, and there’s no reason to force a session when baby needs comfort more than photos.

Mom came back the next week, just her and baby, and it made all the difference. Baby girl settled right in, relaxed, and we easily captured the images we needed. This is exactly why I always tell families: there is never any pressure. We work with your baby, not against them.

Oxygen Support Is Nothing to Stress About

Some parents ask if I can edit out the oxygen tubing in a few images, and I’m always happy to do that when it’s meaningful to them. But this mama wanted to remember her daughter’s first days exactly as they were — oxygen and all. There’s something powerful about honoring that part of the story.

Her soft pinks, ivory tones, and gentle purples made the perfect palette for her session. And those tiny toes and hands? Absolutely perfect.

Why Flexible Newborn Sessions Matter

Families across Colorado — from Limon to Hugo, Flagler, Genoa, and the surrounding rural eastern Colorado towns — appreciate newborn sessions that allow for real life. Babies have their own timelines, and flexibility is part of the process. Whether your newborn needs oxygen support, extra feeding breaks, or a second session day, it’s all completely normal.
