March Engagement Session on the Big Sandy Creek in Limon, Colorado
Alyssa and Michael’s March engagement session took place down on the Big Sandy Creek in Limon, Colorado , one of my favorite spots even before spring fully arrives. Colorado hasn’t woken up yet this time of year, and the landscape is still brown and quiet, but the golden warm light more than makes up for it. That glow turns everything cozy, soft, and romantic, even before the first signs of green show up.
These two are getting married this May, and I was so happy when they asked me to photograph their engagement session. They drove in from Stratton for their photos, and we made the most of a quick 30‑minute golden hour session.
Early Spring in Colorado — Brown Backdrop, Beautiful Light
March in Colorado is unpredictable. The grass is still dormant, the trees are bare, and everything feels a little muted. But that warm golden hour light? It’s unbeatable. The Big Sandy Creek always gives us a clean, open backdrop, and the soft light bouncing off the water and sandbars made the whole session feel warm and inviting.
Movement‑Based Prompts for Natural, Comfortable Photos
Instead of stiff posing, we focused on movement — walking, swaying, leaning in, and interacting naturally. It can feel awkward in the moment, but it photographs beautifully. Alyssa and Michael trusted the process completely, and it shows in every image. Their connection is easy, genuine, and full of warmth.
A Couple Who Made the Session Effortless
These two were so easy to work with. Kind, relaxed, and willing to go along with anything I suggested. Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing couples in rural eastern Colorado - the landscape is simple, the light is beautiful, and the focus stays on the people and their story.
