Jennicah | Senior Mountain Session in Colorado Springs, CO
The early morning hours in Colorado Springs set the stage for a breathtaking senior session with Jennicah. Traveling all the way from Garden City, Kansas, she made the four-hour trip to Limon, and from there, we kicked off her session before the sun even rose. With a schedule to accommodate, we planned for a sunrise shoot, and it couldn’t have worked out more perfectly. The calm, golden light of dawn combined with the peaceful mountain backdrop created the most dreamy setting for her portraits.
A Breathtaking Mountain Location
I had scouted out the perfect mountain location ahead of time—one with gorgeous panoramic views, minimal foot traffic, and an easy hiking trail to get there. Jennicah had specifically requested a small stream in her session, and this spot had it all! The combination of rugged mountain terrain and the peaceful water created a dreamy setting for her portraits.
Her outfit choices were spot-on. She wore a beautiful pink dress that popped perfectly against the stunning mountain backdrop, while her cream dress added a soft, elegant contrast to the ruggedness of the stream. One of the most meaningful moments of the session was when she incorporated her Native American heritage by bringing her grandfather’s bow and arrow. These images were powerful, showcasing both her cultural pride and strength.
Braving the Cold for the Perfect Shot
The river may have been freezing, but that didn’t stop us! Both Jennicah and I stepped into the icy water to capture the perfect shot, and let me tell you—it was 100% worth it. The combination of the flowing water and Jennicah’s serene confidence created some of the most breathtaking images of the session.
Ending the Morning with a Delicious Breakfast
After wrapping up the mountain portion of the shoot, we rewarded ourselves with breakfast at the Denver Biscuit Company (how had I never been here before?!). Over coffee and the most incredible biscuit sandwich, we got to chat, laugh, and just enjoy the moment. This is one of my favorite things about senior sessions—the friendships that form and the quality time spent with amazing people.
Why Senior Portraits Matter
For moms of high school seniors, this is such a bittersweet time. Your child is about to embark on a new journey, whether it’s college, a career, or another exciting path. Senior portraits aren’t just about taking pictures—they’re about celebrating all the hard work, growth, and achievements that led to this moment. These photos will be cherished for years to come, serving as a reminder of who they were at this pivotal stage of life.
