Macie’s Senior Session in Simla, Colorado

Every once in a while, a senior comes along who’s juggling all the things—and doing it with style. Macie is one of those girls! A senior at Limon High School, she’s involved in volleyball, golf, basketball, track and cheer. Seriously—how she balances it all, I’ll never know, but she does it with a bright smile and a laid-back vibe that made this session so much fun.

When it came time for her senior session, Macie wanted something different—a location that didn’t feel like home turf. So, we hit the road and headed a little west to Simla, Colorado. It’s one of my favorite hidden gems for rural senior photography in Colorado. The town’s charming old buildings give off this vintage, small-town vibe, and Big Sandy Creek bed adds a gorgeous natural element that totally pops on camera. Between the texture of brick walls and the softness of sandy trails, it gave us the perfect variety for Macie’s high school senior portraits.

Now, I’m going to be real with you—the mosquitos were out for blood (literally), but the sunset more than made up for it. That golden light flooding through the trees and bouncing off the creek bed? Absolute magic. We ended the session with those warm, glowy shots that you only get for a few fleeting minutes—and they were so worth it.

One of the things I always tell my seniors and their families is: don’t stress the location. That’s my job! I love scouting spots that match each senior’s vibe and vision. Whether it’s a funky small town, a wildflower-filled meadow, or wide-open plains with mountain views, I take care of the planning so you don’t have to spend your time scrolling Google Maps or second-guessing where to go. When you book with me, location scouting is just one of the many things I handle so you can focus on enjoying the experience.

And honestly, senior sessions should be fun. They mark such an important moment in a young person’s life—it’s a way to celebrate who they are right now, before they take the next big step. These photos freeze this moment in time when everything is about to change. It’s not just about getting a cute yearbook photo (though we’ll absolutely get that, too!). It’s about capturing you—your interests, your style, your spirit.

Macie’s session was such a great example of that. Her energy, her drive, and her love for sports all came through in every photo. I’m so excited for what her future holds and beyond thankful I got to help her document this season of life.

If you’re looking for outdoor senior pictures in Colorado, whether you’re based in Limon, Simla, or even searching for a Colorado Springs senior photographer, I’d love to work with you!
