Kate’s One‑Year Studio Session in Limon, Colorado
One‑year sessions are some of my favorites, especially when babies are officially standing and stepping into toddlerhood. I love waiting until this milestone because it truly marks the shift from infant to toddler — the balance, the confidence, the curiosity. For Kate’s one‑year session, we celebrated exactly that.
I’ve photographed this family for years. I took her brother’s one‑year photos and captured Kate’s newborn session as well, so seeing her again at this stage was such a joy. Watching clients grow and change over time is one of the best parts of being a Colorado photographer.
Kate’s family traveled from Burlington, Colorado for her session, and we kept everything indoors at my studio in Limon. April light is beautiful, but the wind can be unpredictable, so the studio was the perfect choice.
Soft Pinks, Florals, and a Sweet Spring Country Setup
Kate’s mom wanted soft pinks and florals — something gentle, feminine, and timeless. But she also brought the cutest pair of overalls, so we built a little spring country scene to match. The combination of soft tones with a simple rustic setup gave us a perfect mix of sweet and playful.
Stranger Danger and a Little Patience
Like many one‑year‑olds, Kate was experiencing a bit of stranger danger. She wasn’t too sure about leaving mom’s lap, and that’s completely normal at this age. With patience, a slow approach, and a little trickery (the classic peek‑a‑boo behind the camera never fails), she eventually warmed up enough for us to capture some truly adorable images.
She wasn’t overly excited about her cake — which is also very normal — but even the hesitant expressions are part of the story. One‑year sessions aren’t about perfection; they’re about personality.
