Mounce Newborn Session in My Limon, Colorado Studio

Blended family with five older siblings during newborn photos

Newborn sessions always feel special, but this one had an extra layer of sweetness. The Mounce family traveled from Flagler, Colorado to my studio in Limon for their baby girl’s newborn session, and from the moment they walked in, I knew it was going to be a beautiful morning. Mom requested a lovely, unique color palette for a baby girl — blue, green, and ivory — and I absolutely loved that direction. It gave me the chance to use one of my favorite plant‑themed backdrops, which paired perfectly with her soft, earthy tones.

This little one is the baby of a blended family with five older siblings, and she is adored beyond measure. You could feel it the second they walked in. Everyone was relaxed, happy, and excited to welcome their newest sister. She slept like a champ through most of the session, which meant mom could sit back, relax, and enjoy the quiet while the kids hung out, watched TV, and made themselves comfortable. That’s always my goal — newborn sessions should feel calm, not rushed.

A Dreamy Color Palette and the Sweetest Chubby Cheeks

I love when parents choose colors that feel personal and unique. Blue and green aren’t the typical “baby girl” choices, which is exactly why I loved them. They photographed beautifully against her chubby cheeks and soft newborn features. The plant backdrop added a natural, organic feel that tied everything together without overwhelming the simplicity of the session.

Newborn photography in rural eastern Colorado often leans toward neutrals, so getting to play with this palette was refreshing and fun.

Deciding Between Baby‑Only or Full Family Newborn Photos

One question I get often is whether families should choose a baby‑only session or a full family newborn session. There’s no right answer — it depends on what matters most to you.

  • Baby‑only sessions focus entirely on your newborn: wrapped poses, tiny details, soft setups, and simple styling.

  • Family newborn sessions include parents, siblings, and group portraits. These sessions tell the story of your family as it grows and change.

Because the time, posing, and editing needs are different, my pricing varies between the two. Some families want the full story; others want the focus solely on their newborn. Also, baby-only sessions are often completeted more quickly that full newborn sessions. The Mounce family chose a full session, and with five older siblings, it was the perfect choice.
