Metzger - Unique Family Session in Matheson, Colorado
The Metzger family session was nothing short of epic! As a Colorado family photographer, I’m always excited when a family wants to do something a little different, and this session delivered in every way. We photographed on an abandoned train bridge in Matheson, Colorado—a truly unique location that gave us the perfect mix of rustic charm and stunning scenery.
Matheson is a hidden gem located between Colorado Springs and Limon. The train bridge sits on private property, but thanks to some great connections, I’m able to access spots like this for families who want something out of the ordinary. The lighting that afternoon was absolutely magical, casting a warm glow that made every shot feel even more special.
The Metzger family always brings their A-game when it comes to sessions. With six kids who are total pros at getting their photos taken, it’s clear that they’ve done this before. That’s one of the many perks of photographing the same families year after year—you build a rhythm, and the comfort and connection shine through in the photos. Their loyalty means the world to me, and it’s such a privilege to capture their growing family over the years.
Their outfit choices were spot on—coordinated without being too matchy-matchy, perfectly complementing the earthy tones of the location. Combined with the dramatic bridge setting and incredible light, it all came together beautifully.
One of my favorite parts of this session was getting outside the box a little and embracing a more adventurous vibe. Sessions like these remind me how much I love exploring new places and pushing creative boundaries.
